Colin Davies, partner in Linder Myers’ family team, has recently qualified as a family arbitrator providing separating couples with an alternative to the Courts when trying to resolve financial disputes.
The arbitration scheme was launched in February 2012 by the Institute of Family Law Arbitrators (IFLA) to enable family disputes to be resolved more quickly and cost effectively using an impartial party and avoiding going to Court. Davies has practiced in family law for 24 years and specialises in a wide range of financial matters from foreign assets and pensions to family trusts and liquidity.
Commenting on his recent qualification Colin Davies, family partner at Linder Myers Solicitors said: “Arbitration provides a different avenue for resolving financial disputes in divorce matters allowing solicitors to choose the right arbitrator to suit their client’s needs.
The arbitration process also provides control during proceedings which are often stressful and provides the confidentiality, particularly in high profile cases, that the Courts may not allow.” “Divorce matters are often contentious and can be difficult to resolve particularly if there are complicated financial matters in dispute. Offering clients the option of an arbitrator provides flexibility, choice and speed in reaching a fair compromise.”
