Winter Blues? You are not alone!
It’s the time of year when our bank balances, immune systems and motivation is at an all time low. The January Blues kick in and suddenly everything seems a little greyer, and that’s not just the weather.
This may explain why, according to a recent survey, January is the worst time for couples. It has been reported that January is the month when arguments between lovers increase to an average of eight minutes a day and it is the month where family lawyers see a surge in divorce enquiries.
Experts believe that the reason for such a high break-up rate in the new year is caused by “cabin fever”. The Christmas period has drained many couples of their cash and good humour and, as a result, they end up spending too much time stuck inside, bored and restless. In January people spend on average 14 hours and 48 minutes a day cooped up indoors, which couples have said results in up to 20 arguments a month with their other half. Many people often feel depressed throughout the long winter period which accounts for frayed tempers and lack of enthusiasm when it comes to their relationship.
As a consequence, it has been reported that 65% of people have ended a relationship with their partner in January with many confiding that the break-up was due to their New Year’s Resolution. Couples in London are the worst hit and spend around 13 minutes a day arguing with their partners, which averages out at about 24 arguments a month.
There is a positive to all of this…summer is only 6 months away! Start cleaning your BBQs…
