Tony joined Linder Myers in December 2011, following the merger with Rowlands Field Cunningham.
Tony is Head of the Family and Child Care Department across the firm. Having a passion for the law, Tony has worked both as a practising barrister and as a solicitor. He studied Law at Leicester University and started out his legal career as a barrister, having been called to the Bar in 1982 after completing his pupillage with a set of chambers in Manchester before qualifying as a solicitor in 1988.
He has worked as a Legal Advisor to the Magistrates Court and, earlier in his career, worked as a duty solicitor advising clients at Police Stations.
Tony’s specialist areas are Child Law, Crime and Road Traffic Offences. He is a well-known and much respected advocate on the Manchester Court Circuit.
Tony holds Higher Rights of Audience for both Civil and Criminal Proceedings and can represent clients in the Higher Courts. He was a Deputy District Judge for eight years hearing criminal cases at various Courts throughout England and Wales.
Having an excellent reputation as a childcare specialist, Tony has over 30 years’ experience in family matters. He is an Accredited Member of the Law Society’s Children Panel and a committee member of the Manchester based Charity, Child Concern.
In his legal aid practice, Tony and his specialist team, represent parents, grandparents and the children (on the instruction of the child’s appointed Guardian) in Care and Supervision Proceedings issued by Local Authorities where a child is considered to be at risk by social workers. Tony has taken instructions directly from children when they are considered mature enough by the Court to be separately represented in proceedings relating to them. Tony can advise on any aspect of Child Law, including Child Arrangements Orders (formerly Residence and Contact) Specific Issues, Prohibited Steps Orders, Special Guardianship Orders, Wardship and Adoption.
Tony is practical and down to earth in his advice but not as serious as his photograph suggests. Clients like Tony’s sense of humour and pleasing personality and admire his strong and persuasive advocacy style.
Tony lives in Manchester with his wife. He has three children and three grandchildren to date. Having grandchildren, Tony has no free time, other than keeping fit to look after his grandchildren! When not babysitting or working, Tony likes to travel with his family, have a round of golf and watch football. He is an avid supporter of Manchester United Football Club.
