Psychiatric claims

Psychiatric aspects to claims are often the most complex. They may involve psychiatric negligence itself in relation to treatment of psychiatric conditions or it may involve an assessment in relation to the psychological consequences to other medical negligence trauma. The definitions of particular psychiatric disorders are complicated. Treatments vary and are always evolving.

Linder Myers has a particular interest in psychiatric claims. We have dealt with a substantial group action on behalf of a number of individuals in the Multiple Claimants v The Ministry of Defence claims. This arose out of allegations against the Ministry of Defence in failing to adequately treat combat stress related symptoms such as post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or other post traumatic symptoms.
