Training on policies and procedures

There is no point in having a comprehensive set of policies and procedures in place if they are not followed. It is vital therefore that managers and HR departments are fully trained in their implementation. Policies and procedures must be applied consistently and fairly.

If your policies and procedures are contractual, at best you run the risk of breach of contract claims from disgruntled employees by not following them. At worst, you run the risk of employees resigning and claiming constructive dismissal.

Even if your policies and procedures aren’t contractual, you will be criticised by a Tribunal if you do not follow them in practice. This could ultimately lead to an otherwise fair dismissal being unfair.
