Meet the qualified Solicitor

Laura Clapton did her training contract at Linder Myers and has stayed with the firm. She provides comment on what it is like to complete the journey to qualified Solicitor.

Laura Clapton

Name: Laura Clapton

Education: LLB in European, Comparative and International Law at the University of Sheffield and LPC at Manchester Metropolitan University

Start date: September 2006

Departments you worked in during your training contract? Trusts and Estates, Human Rights, Commercial Litigation and Medical Negligence/Personal Injury

Department you are working in now? Medical Negligence

What attracted you to Linder Myers? I liked the fact that Linder Myers offered a wide range of departments, covering most areas of law. I knew that being in a training seat here would give me the opportunity to experience the different areas of law to see which I wanted to qualify in. Also, being right in the heart of Manchester is a great pull, as I wanted the opportunity to enjoy city centre life.

What was your training experience like? I had a very positive training experience. I found that I had an interesting and varied workload where I was given plenty of responsibility, although at the same time everyone was approachable. I can’t really remember any particularly bad moments, although the scariest was definitely my first solo court hearing.

What do you do in your job now? I’m now a Medical Negligence solicitor, representing clients who have been injured as a result of negligent clinical treatment. I have a very varied caseload which ensures I am never bored.

What advice would you give to someone applying to Linder Myers? Try and get as much out of your different training seats as you can – it goes by really quickly and never be afraid to ask questions!
