Licensing

The sale of alcohol and the consumption of hot food, entertainment and other activities between certain hours are controlled by the 2003 Licensing Act.

The object of the act is to promote the proper use of licensed premises and to remove the old complex matrix of restrictions imposed by the old regime.

The act controls this by stipulating that any person or company who wishes to pursue activities covered by the act must have:

  • a premises Licence for the location in which the activities are to take place
  • a person responsible for running those activities, called a Premises Supervisor, who must have passed a course at which they are taught their responsibilities.

Failure to comply is a criminal offence punishable by 6 months imprisonment or a £20,000 fine.

How can Linder Myers help?

We can arrange on a variety of issues including:

  • the content of the application
  • the layout of the plan with the application
  • the likely permissible hours and activities
  • dealing with objections
  • negotiating with the licensing officers
  • advertising the application
  • representing you before the Licensing Committee
  • representing you in the appeal process thereafter

Why choose Linder Myers?

We always talk the application through with our clients before lodging the same, and if possible consult the local licensing officers of the Local Authority who deal with the applications. This will hopefully prevent any difficulties when the application is formally made and ease its passage.

Our dedicated solicitors have considerable experience in dealing with these issues and avoiding the pitfalls that can often be associated with licensing applications.
