GP fails to diagnose cancer

A mother who attended her GP surgery for over 2 years has been advised that she has only 18 months to live after doctors failed to diagnose her cancer.

The patient visited the GP’s surgery on 13 separate occasions complaining of symptoms before finally being diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Despite displaying the ‘classic signs’ of bowel cancer and being in excruciating pain, the GP advised the patient to take warm baths and eat different foods. The patient’s medical records reveal an entry by the GP recording the patient as “neurotic”.

Legal proceedings have now been commenced against North Central London & NHS Hertfordshire as well as Barnett and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust.

Linder Myers Solicitors has a specialist clinical and medical negligence team who have undertaken numerous successful claims for patients involved in the negligent delay of the diagnosis of cancer and treatment of the condition.
