Cancer: delay in diagnosis or misdiagnosis
Cancer is caused as a result of the disruption to the normal blood cell cycle allowing abnormal cells to begin to grow out of control. There are many forms of cancer (malignant) cells.
Some of the more common forms of cancer include:
- adenocarcinoma (cancer in glandular tissue)
- melanoma (skin cancer)
- sarcoma (cancer from transformed connective tissue cells)
- lymphoma (cancer in lymphatic cells)
Some cancer is often caused by environmental or other exposures (such as smoking or sunlight).
Early diagnosis and treatment
Unfortunately, some cancers have to grow to a sufficient size or have a sufficient number of cells in order to be recognised. It is often the case that by the time they are recognised, treatments may be limited in terms of cure albeit that is dependant upon the particular type of cancer.
It is therefore extremely important for cancers to be diagnosed correctly and to be caught at the earliest possible time provided appropriate symptoms are recognised.
Your compensation claim
The Linder Myers Medical Negligence team have won many successful cases relating to the misdiagnosis and treatment of cancer. Cancer affects one in three individuals, and whilst only a small fraction of the treatment of these cases may be negligent, negligent treatment can have severe consequences.
